You Won't Regret It!

THE UAE ISN’T ADOPTING AI SEARCH. IT’S ALREADY LIVING IN IT.

    Published on — July 28, 2026

NEW GLOBAL RESEARCH FROM YOUGOV PUTS A NUMBER ON SOMETHING WE’VE BEEN TELLING CLIENTS FOR MONTHS: 89% OF ONLINE SEARCHERS IN THE UAE NOW USE AI ASSISTANTS TO START THEIR SEARCH QUERIES. THAT’S THE HIGHEST ADOPTION RATE OF ANY MARKET SURVEYED, WORLDWIDE. SAUDI ARABIA IS CLOSE BEHIND AT 86%. THE UNITED STATES, HOME TO MOST OF THE AI INDUSTRY, TRAILS AT 48%, THE LOWEST OF ALL 19 COUNTRIES IN THE STUDY.

If you’re building a brand in this region, that gap isn’t a curiosity. It’s a warning shot.

YouGov's US Web Search and AI Report 2026

    THE NUMBERS, IN CONTEXT

YouGov’s US Web Search and AI Report 2026 surveyed online searchers across 19 markets between April and May 2026, asking a simple question: on average, how many new queries do you start with an AI assistant to find information?

Market% of online searchers using AI to start queries
    UAE89%
    India89%
    Indonesia89%
    Saudi Arabia86%
    Singapore82%
    Switzerland82%
    Great Britain54%
    United States48%

The UAE and KSA aren’t just keeping pace with the shift from search engines to AI-assisted discovery. They’re setting it. And the report’s broader findings suggest this isn’t a passing habit. Among people who already use AI assistants, more have increased their usage over the past year than decreased it, and future growth is concentrated among existing users going deeper, not new users being converted. In markets where adoption is already this high, that deepening happens faster.

WHY THIS MATTERS MORE THAN A STAT ON A SLIDE

Here’s the category myth we’ve spent years challenging: that Search & Discovery is just about ranking on Google. It never was, and this data makes the case better than we could.

When nearly nine in ten of your customers are as likely to ask an AI assistant a question as they are to type it into a search bar, “we rank well on Google” stops being the whole strategy. It’s one channel in a discovery ecosystem that now includes AI assistants, video platforms, social search, and marketplaces, all feeding from (and increasingly citing) the same underlying content.

The brands that win in this environment aren’t the ones chasing every new platform. They’re the ones whose content, structure, and market intelligence are built to be discoverable and trustworthy wherever the question gets asked – not just on a results page, but inside an AI-generated answer.

That’s a fundamentally different brief to “get us to page one.”

THE TRUST GAP IS THE OPPORTUNITY

The same report surfaces a tension brands can’t ignore: AI assistants are winning on usage, but not yet on trust. Globally, people still verify AI-generated answers against other sources before acting on them. Search engines and official websites remain the most trusted channels. As YouGov’s Mark Fantino puts it in the report’s foreword, the real contest isn’t links versus answers, it’s about delivering both: fast answers, backed by visible proof.

For UAE brands, this is the opening. In a market where AI-assisted search is already the dominant behaviour, whoever solves for both speed and credibility, whoever shows up as the cited, trusted source inside an AI answer, not just a link beneath it, builds a genuine and lasting competitive advantage. This isn’t a race to be present everywhere. It’s a race to be the answer that gets trusted.

    AI Search Growth Strategy

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR GROWTH STRATEGY

A market moving this fast towards AI-assisted discovery changes what “being found” actually means. A few implications worth acting on now:

    • Content built for citation, not just clicks

AI assistants summarise and synthesise. Content structured to be quoted, referenced, and trusted performs differently to content structured purely to rank.

    • Brand-led performance, not either/or

The old debate, brand building versus performance marketing, collapses further in an AI-mediated search world. You need both working together, compounding over time, not competing for budget.

    • First-mover advantage is real, and shrinking

In a market this far ahead of the global curve, the brands that adapt their discovery strategy now will own the category conversation before their competitors even notice the shift has happened.

The UAE isn’t catching up to the future of search. By YouGov’s own numbers, it’s already there, ahead of Saudi Arabia, ahead of Singapore, decisively ahead of the US. For brands operating in this market, that’s not a stat to admire. It’s a strategic runway that’s closing fast.

We built our Search & Discovery approach for exactly this shift: helping brands move from competing for rankings to owning the category conversation, across every channel their customers now use to find answers.

If your discovery strategy still ends at “we rank well on Google,” let’s discuss your category position.
